PALANGA AND AMBER MUSEUM – MUST SEE OBJECTS

Western Lithuania has things that can impress tourists and natives that come over here to rest or to travel. With a rented car, or together with a guide you can visit many surrounding areas, with distinctive historical memorials, unique cultural heritage, and modernised or restored objects, cleaned up squares and parks with retained authenticity adapted for comfortable recreation. We will continue getting acquainted with the cities of the Western Lithuania that are visited the most by quickly familiarising ourselves with another Lithuanian resort town – Palanga.

Distance between Palanga and Klaipėda is just 25 kilometers. Therefore you can reach it by a car very quickly. It is a resort town that is being considered one of the best health resorts not only in Lithuania, but in all Baltic countries as well. Among the most famous visited objects, the main place is taken by Amber museum of Palanga and Palace of Count Feliksas Tiškevičius, botany sculpture parks, Basanavičius street, and Palanga bridge.

Botany garden that surrounds Amber museum of Palanga – one of the most beautiful, richest, and best kept parks in Lithuania. It is established in the territory of the sacred Birutė forest, and for a long time locals called it Birutė park.
Birutė hill – relic dune located in Palanga botany park. Atop of the hill is Birutė chapel. It is hard to imagine Palanga without the sea bridge – location that attracts everyone, who visits the largest resort of the country. Amazing view of the dunes, yellowish beach and endless sea opens from the bridge. Here you can listen to the sounds of the sea, seagull scream, and in the evening together with your loved ones you can comfortably rest on benches and enjoy last rays of the sun going into the sea.

First of all ship pier for ships that would transport bricks made in the count brickyard, was built in the spot of the bridge. Later, after the exportation of bricks did not pan out, this ship was used to carry passengers. However, after storms the pier was covered with sand and eventually it was realised that the bridge is not suitable for shipping. From 1892 sea bridge become favourite place for a walk, its length is – 470 meters.
